RiskIQ’s Arian Evans and James Pleger to Present at DerbyCon 2016
September 15, 2016
SAN FRANCISCO – September 15, 2016 – RiskIQ, a leader in external threat management, today announced that Arian Evans, VP of product strategy and James Pleger, head of research, will give a joint presentation titled, “Top 10 2015-2016 Compromise Patterns Observed and Using Non-traditional Internet Datasets to Detect and Avoid Them” at the upcoming DerbyCon 2016 conference taking place September 21-25 in Louisville, Ky.
Over the last year there has been a consistent set of patterns in attacker behaviors and breach targets. Malicious cyber-threat actors are often repeat offenders reusing the same reconnaissance techniques and the same threat infrastructure, but in new ways. They will continue to attack the same target again if the target continues to play whack-a-mole treating hardening systems and investigating breaches as one-off events. In this presentation Evans and Pleger will establish the common patterns of compromise and adversarial behavior in the early stages of the “kill-chain” leading up to the first attack.
The two will outline how penetration testers and vulnerability managers can show how adversaries perform reconnaissance and setup, allowing security experts to effectively measure and manage their attack surface more closely to how actual adversaries will map it out. The presentation will also help security analysis and incident response teams understand how to spot new adversary patterns and pivots, and what internet security datasets can be used to pinpoint them.
In addition to the conference presentation, RiskIQ is also an exhibitor at this year’s event, located at Booth F. DerbyCon 2016 will take place September 21-25 at the Hyatt Louisville Kentucky. The full agenda can be found at: https://www.derbycon.com/schedule/.
